Controlled drug delivery systems in eradicating bacterial biofilm-associated infections

چکیده
Drug delivery systems (DDS) have extensively progressed over the past decades for eradicating bacteria embedded in biofilms while minimizing side effects of antimicrobials on normal tissues. They possess potential solving challenges intrinsic antimicrobial-resistance and poor penetration into biofilms. However, guidelines developing a controlled DDS combating bacterial are limited. In this review, classical mechanisms mathematical models were summarized order to lay foundation development. Strategies building proposed based process biofilm formation, including surface coatings, fibers, nanoparticles as prevent formation eradicate biofilm-associated infections. The that still remain design discussed future directions suggested. We hope review could give “road map” inspire readers boost development new generation drug release system antimicrobial applications. • great biofilm-related Summary DDS. Overview strategies biofilm. Drug delivery systems for potential treatment of intracellular bacterial infections.
Despite the advent of a considerable number of new antibiotics, treatment of intracellular pathogens still represents a major pharmaceutical challenge. The antibiotic concentration in those specialized niches are often subtherapeutic, for which high doses of antibiotics must often be used. This is not only costly but may also increase localized or systemic side effects. There is therefore an ur...
متن کاملPulsatile Drug Delivery Systems: An Approach for Controlled Drug Delivery
Pulsatile systems are gaining a lot of interest as they deliver the drug at the right site of action at the right time and in the right amount, thus providing spatial and temporal delivery and increasing patient compliance. These systems are designed according to the circadian rhythm of the body. The principle rationale for the use of pulsatile release is for the drugs where a constant drug rel...

Controlled release drug delivery systems 1 are those dosage formulations designed to release an active ingredient at rates, which differ significantly from their corresponding conventional dosage forms. The controlled release drug delivery systems are aimed at controlling the rate of drug delivery, sustaining the duration of therapeutic activity and/or targeting the delivery of the drug to a ti...
